The dinner series table@45ROCK — held at 45 Rockefeller Center, overlooking the Prometheus Fountain — was inaugurated on April 27, 2011 and proved a great success. In 2012 the discussions will turn from issues like workflow and the right amount of enhancement toward the intersection of creative execution, navigation, engagement and measurement as well as increasing "findability" and monetization of magazines apps.
Chris Kevorkian, MPA's EVP/Digital has teamed up with a great line-up of co-hosts for this year's digital dinners: Dana Points, Editor-in-Chief, Parents/American Baby; Jim Meigs, Editor-in-Chief; Editorial Director, Men's Enthusiast Group, Popular Mechanics; Mike Hofman, Digital Managing Director, Glamour; and Kim Kelleher, Publisher, Time Magazine.
Following each dinner, key take-aways will be featured here, and will be promoted in the MPA Roundup. Follow the conversation on twitter @MPADigital #45ROCK.
May 7th, 2012 Dinner
Our first table @ sanfrancisco was a smashing success! We covered a lot of ground regarding readership, subscription models, monetization, navigation, and the use of social media in apps. The turnout was unbelievable and we’re already working on scheduling another West Coast dinner. We welcome your thoughts and feedback.
Let’s keep the conversation going. If you’d like to join us at the “table” send your name and email to digital@magazine.org for consideration.

March 28, 2012 Dinner
This month’s dinner was truly compelling. We covered a lot of ground regarding going beyond typical enhancements and incorporating interactive tools, game-like experiences, and utilities to access or manage databases. Everyone’s willingness to share is essential to accelerating the industry’s ability to optimize the tablet, e-reader and smartphone experience for all constituents. These dinners are really helping us move forward as an industry.
We welcome your thoughts on our March discussion: DEEP INTERACTIVITY: Tools, Games, and Databases - Using the Power of the Tablet to Go Farther Past Print.
January 25, 2012 Dinner
table@45ROCK 2012 officially launched this on January 25 with a lively conversation that focused on Navigation and Social Media. Of particular interest was the growing communities of Pinterest and Tumblr, which led to a discussion of the upcoming MPA Social Media Research study that should be going into the field in two weeks or so.
Initially the goal of the dinner(s) was to provide a monthly forum for leading innovative magazine media pros to convene and share the challenges and successes of creating & curating cross-platform content for tablets and smartphones. From these discussions emerged the need for The MPA Magazine Media Lab, Tablet Research and the White paper on Personal Mobile Devices.
